Complex Magazine officially announced today that Drake will be covering their next issue. (Shouts to D. Scott on writing a bomb story and the rest of the Complex fam). In the interview, Drake speaks on Roc Nation’s first rapper, J. Cole, saying, “when J. Cole gets it super-right, I think he’s gonna have a place as a Nas-type character who really stands for hip-hop, but still makes ill records that everybody fucks with.”
Coming from one of J. Cole’s biggest competitors in the freshman class of rappers, Drake’s commentary can be taken as a backhanded compliment— as if Cole is still go get his flow “super-right”. In my opinion, Cole’s been “super-right” for a while, the problem is not every rapper has the crossover pop/R&B appeal given to a Young Money-sponsored, former Degrassi star (no shots).
The point is: If you’ve been sleeping on J. Cole, even though that’s unlikely, it’s time to give dude the buzz he deserves. Listen below for a new track that surfaced today and hit the jump for more key tracks from J. Cole…
