Who knew Shakira was into good music. I just came across this small snippet of a new track that she’s calling “Explore” but it’s a straight up cover of the XX song – Islands. It’s definitely pretty catchy, she throws in an electro-esque beat that adds a nice layer onto the already super dank track. Hear the snippet below:

Okay! So we finally get a visual for the single from the British group’s last self-titled album, The xx. The video itself is pretty much what I expected from the group: A painfully repetitive scene of a man and a woman doing the same dance move over and over and over (it’s actually slightly different each time). As for the group, they’re sitting on a couch dressed in all-black-everything trying painfully hard to look emo. They kinda remind me of Cartman’s Christian rock group, Faith Plus One, trying a little bit too hard to look deep and anguished. Oh well, leave your opinion in the comments section if you feel so obliged.

The lineup for this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival is simply ridiculous. Pretty much all my favorites are on the card, including: Jay – Z, Phoenix, The xx, Kid Cudi, Nas, The National, and many more. A nutty new ticket package was just introduced called Bonnaroo Total Access – Here’s the deal:
For a hefty $18,500 (or $2,350 per person for 8 people), you get some pretty ill perks:
An on-stage viewing area for main stage performances, exclusive viewing areas for all peripheral stage shows, private showers and bathrooms, 24/7 golf cart service, an on-site concierge, open bars and hospitality tents scattered around the grounds, and pre-stocking of the bus with your favorite goodies. It may be a touch expensive, but it definitely beats sleeping next to some candy-flipping grimey ass hippies. (Which is still pretty chill) To check out a video on the ticket package, hit more: (more…)
A Few New Tracks 03/09/2010

MGMT just released the first single off their new album Celebration this morning. It’s not like any MGMT we’ve ever heard. There are about 8 different sections and there is no consistent head-nodding hook that we know them best for. It’s got a modest mousey-kind of feel. The second newbee is a track from a brand new band that nobody even knew existed until this track started circulating on blogs this week. The group called Cults doesn’t even have a myspace and their practically non-googlable. I think it’s super catchy with great vibes, have a listen. The third track is a remix I recently stumbled upon remixing the xx with Biggie and Tupac. Shits hot. Hit the jump to hear em. (more…)

So I can’t front, Eric put me on to these British dudes a couple weeks ago and I sort of shrugged them off. Even though they’ve been around since ’05, The XX have remained relatively under the American radar. Then I saw this video they released recently for their song “VCR“. Can’t help but enjoy the simplistic beat and laid back vocals. Yeah, it’s a little emo but if you’re in the right mood this music makes for some chill listening. If you like this video, be sure to listen to the songs below.
